Design Tips for Choosing Windows for Your Home

Whether you’re replacing the windows in your current home or busy building a new home, choosing the right windows can make all the difference to the aesthetics of the property.

If you think about it, choosing modern windows for a traditional home definitely won’t do the property justice, nor will choose wooden sash windows for a modern home.

Style of Home

Take a walk around your property and look at the style of the home. Modern homes will look fantastic with large windows with aluminum frames, traditional cottages will definitely benefit from wooden windows which add elegance and style.

Get some pictures of the windows and materials that are available. Take a photograph of your property and place the pictures where the windows are to go, this is definitely the best way to determine the style you want. It’s easy, quick and a really fun project to do.

Materials

Windows come in four main materials; they are aluminum, wood, fibreglass and vinyl. Knowing the advantages and disadvantages of these materials will help you make the decision.

Aluminum doesn’t buckle or bend and is the perfect choice for really large windows, like a wall of windows in a modern home. Originally used for commercial buildings, aluminum is becoming a popular choice in homes all over the country.

Wood offers elegance; it is the most expensive material and is very heavy. It does get the basic wear and tear and will require maintenance now and again, but overall will give your home a stylish and welcoming look.

Fibreglass is stylish; it’s well insulated and affordable. It’s almost maintenance free and offers a wonderful look to any home.

Vinyl is the material of choice at the moment. It’s highly energy efficient; it’s completely maintenance free and can withstand any climate conditions. The disadvantage is that should the vinyl window get damage, you cannot repair it which means you would have to replace it.

Make Your House a Home

Once you’ve chosen the design of your windows and the materials to be used, the style of your home will come together easily making the house a home you can be proud of. Replacing or placing the correct windows with the right energy efficiency has proven to add value to your home, so it’s a fantastic investment.
